Tucson Comic Con 2015 Cosplay

One of my favorite parts about visiting Tucson Comic Con is seeing all of the creative costumes created and worn by the Cosplay community.  Here are a few of my favorites from this year’s convention.

Nice Batman & Robin collaboration!

Nice Batman & Robin collaboration!

Fallout Vault Dweller

This Cosplayer is wearing a vault 101 jumpsuit from the Fallout series. I was most impressed by the custom 3-D printed Pipboy that she wore on her wrist.

Stormtrooper Trio

These Stormtroopers looked quite weathered and battle hardened.

Fallout Soldier

Another great Fallout costume. This guy was not a member of the Brotherhood of Steel.

How to cheat in Persona 3 FES with the PCSX2 emulator

I felt like playing a little bit of Persona 3 today but without busting my ass with the battles.  I searched on Google for some Pro Action Replay Max and Gameshark codes and then converted them for use in a patch file with the emulator.  My patch file provides infinite HP/MP for all characters, increases the experience multiplier to 4095, and enables the debug menu so that you can change the date at will.  Hit Select+L3 to trigger the debug menu.

  1. Create a file called “94A82AAA.pnach” in your cheats directory.
  2. Copy and paste the following lines into that file.
    gametitle=Persona 3 FES [SLUS_216.21] [94A82AAA]
  3. Save the file.
  4. You should be good to go, but don’t forget to enable cheats under the System menu in the emulator.

How to play the “Talkie” version of Leisure Suit Larry 6 on ScummVM

In celebration of Al Lowe reaching his Kickstarter goal, I decided to play through each of the Leisure Suit Larry games this weekend.  This led me to the pleasant discovery that ScummVM has been updated to play all AGI and most SCI games published by Sierra On-Line.  When I got to Leisure Suit Larry 6 (LSL6), it took a little extra effort to play the game with speech enabled.  This made me decide to document the procedure in case other people have the same ambition.

Note: I was playing the game using ScummVM 1.4.1.

My copy of LSL6 came on the second disc in the Complete LSL Collection, but the directory structure may be the same on the original publication.

  1. Create a directory for LSL6, preferably where you keep your other ScummVM games.
  2. Copy everything in the LORES directory on your LSL6 CD to the game’s directory on your hard drive.
  3. Copy the AUD and SFX directories from the LSL6 CD to the game’s directory on your hard drive.  Make sure to keep the directory structure intact!
  4. Add the game to ScummVM by pointing at the game’s directory on your hard drive.
  5. Enjoy!

Note: There is also a high-res version of LSL6, but ScummVM does not support it as of this posting.

Adventure Game Roundup

I’ve been playing adventure games since my grandfather first got me the King’s Quest I-III bundle for my Tandy 1000 RL.  Unfortunately, the original games have not aged well, and in most cases have been completely abandoned by the original publishers. Fortunately, there are a few dedicated and talented fans that have managed to re-create some of these beloved games in glorious VGA for the current generation.  Here is a list of games that are completed and ready for play.  If there are any completed adventure game remakes that I missed, leave me a note in the comments!
